Re: 1969 Mariner V bow removal question...

:laugh:you mentioned light weight and a KLR in same sentence?  IIRC, current KLR is about 420 wet. which means it only outweighs my XR650L by 70 lbs and my streetable XR650R by about 120......you meant light compared to an R1200GS?

problem with this idea is that even in the sub-10-hp range, 2 cyl motors don't weigh much more but vibrate a lot less. remember that you're basically in a big tin resonator. AFAIK, no one makes a single cyl outboard with a huge counterbalancer like the KLR has. don't think you'd really want to live with a non-counterbalanced single big enough to plane your hull. they build twins up to 50hp or maybe even 60-65 hp, and triples in the 60-80hp range.

that makes sense, but on lightweight i was talking just the engine of the klr650 and it was just an example off the top of my head... I did not think about the vibrations of a thumper.... my klr650 will rattle all non blue loctited bolt loose.... A 2 cylinder does make more sense to even the vibrations out.... lol

i trust you know i'm only giving you poop about the KLR cuz it was the first runner-up in my most recent bike selection......still wonder if it might work better for me than the XRs, but i got a bottom feeder deal on the XR-L. If i had a dollar for everything that's vibrated loose.......

Yeah no worries.... I got my recent 1992 KLR for free so it was a below bottom feeder deal..... It was a theft recovery and the owner did not want to repair it so we traded an old 38sp I had, I also got it for free... and I have been gathering parts to put the klr back on the road, mainly just body panels and ignition that was punched out... It runs great, has the doohickey mods done and only has 4200 roginal miles.... I have restored prob 20+ bikes in my life, so this is easy enough....

funny though I really like the KLR I have seen them all over the world, they are kinda the VW Bug of the motorcycle world... they are not great at one thing but pretty decent at alot of things... much better for my intentions.... I like it besides it is the first dirt bike I have had since I was a kid... my old kx80 and kx125 werre pretty bullet proof.... but all my other bikes have been true street bikes.... I wanted kinda an all terrain bike.... and the rokin two wheel drive is not street legal.... but cool non the less...
