Then if it's a simple magneto system start by cleaning the points, ohm out the coils to see if they are good. Check your wiring going to the points, make sure it hasn't rotted away.
Probably just interference from moving stuff around. You ready for this, my no spark was a reversed magneto cam. Yup, when I got the motor there was no keyway, just the cam and I moved it from the old powerhead to the new one as is. I called a guy on John's old merc site tonight, he says "flip the magnet cam", presto spark has returned.
You didn't have the cam off did you?/???/???
Thanks, went down to -7C last night, they are shivering in the garage!
Back to your motor, what have you done so far?
Point gap is set at high cam, not at TDC. The points close between TDC and max spark advance depending on the throttle setting. You real need to invest in a manual as you don't seem to understand the basic mechanical operation of the engine
not firing, installed new points, condensers, good compression,is it possible for both coils to be bad? Does stop button have any effect on firing, the push section is missing? Can't afford to guess as it is expensive for this old motor.Any help appreciated.
