hey CHINEWALKER & RATT1966 thanks for all the help. turned out the spark plug wires were giving me all the trouble. just clipped a little of each end and she fired away. MAN what a fun motor. She really moves through the water. Anyway while I was out, the water pump went out and I've got a lower unit seal problem. I'm tring to remove the lower unit and having problems that repair manual is not solving. I've removed all the bolts and nuts that I believe are holding the lower unit on. here are some pics that might help understand what I've done. Thanks for the help! :)

Hey, we're the '69 350 owner's support group!

The photos seem to show you've gotten everything disconnected. It's likely that the driveshaft is stuck in the crankshaft - not uncommon. It's very important to make sure the driveshaft splines are greased before reassembling the lower to the exhaust housing. It's an often overlooked step when a novice tinkerer replaces a waterpump, etc.

You might try some wooden wedges to start prying the unit downwards. Hopefully the driveshaft isn't too badly stuck and just needs some gentle persuasion. The water tube and shift shaft can also stick a bit...

- Scott

Use the 2 forward nuts to help force the L/U down. Just keep backing them off and they should push the L/U down.
