1969 skiff

Hi I purchased a 14 ft Mckee skiff for my son to use, The boat was repainted looks nice it has a 1976 35 hp johnson. The boat has a brass plug at the bottom of the boat appox 6 inches from the transom. Is this a factory plug, also are these boats good for 2 boys 15 yrs old to use? Thanks for any replys!

Mine is a '73 and does not have a plug in that location.
I purchased mine with the intent of my 9 year old grandson growing into it.
By the time I was his age, I had already had a few years of solo experience.
