Re: 197? - 21 Dynamaglas Restoration

Hey, I just stumbled on to this. You might want to consider it.
POR15, Inc. - Stop Rust Permanently - Repair Gas & Fuel Tanks

Can attest to the por15. We fixed the tank in my old toyota with it after cutting the tank in half, sandblasting it, and welding it back together. We also used por15 on the outside of the tank in our boat (we had a couple of pinholes that would seep gas out). Seems to be holding up fine as well.

Subscribing, looks like a big project! Good luck. I'm assuming thats a Ford 302 coming out, going with another 302 based motor or changing?

Re: 197? - 21 Dynamaglas Restoration

I think I'm gonna just bite the bullet and buy a new tank. After doing some research and reading some really good articles ( thanks Woodonglass ) thinking of going with a polyethylene tank. I haven't purchased anything, so I'm still open to idea's. But I have taken the repair idea off the table. I just don't think this is a place to skimp with the money.

Thanks for subscribing White90GT....
I'm pulling out what looks to be a 302. Its in pieces and I haven't even tried to identify her yet because I have a freshly rebuilt GM 350. She will need to be rebuilt once again to marine spec, but it's a really nice motor and I don't have the money for a new one. I will post some pics tomorrow so you guys can see the mess I found when I pulled up the tank area. Yuck!

I finally got a chance to get in the boat for a couple of hours last weekend.... I'm almost to the bottom.

Just more and more rot!

I've started looking at building materials based off of what I've pulled out of the boat already and I noticed that the stringers are covered in a heavy woven. I've been watching a lot of guys going with a lighter weight cloth when building. I want to make sure I put the needed strength back in the hull and framing, but isn't that a little overkill?

Back in the 70's Woven Roving was the Heavy duty fabric to use. Now with the more modern weaves the Biaxials are much stronger but yet lighter and easier to use. 2 layers of 1708 biaxial fabric will be more than sufficient for your stringers. Check the first link in my signature below.

Re: 197? - 21 Dynamaglas Restoration

Hi Guys,

Just a quick update......I had a few things come up and slow the project down dramatically. The biggest is; my master bedroom and bathroom had to be ripped down to the studs after a storm ripped the tarps off the roof while in the middle of replacing the shingles the shingles end of last year. Since then, I was able to get everything back together except for the bath. Since the cold weather is approaching and my wife is ready to kill me, I have to get r done. I'll post some pics of the progress on tearing down the boat soon. Thanks for all your help once again. pics to follow
