I turn the key on and crank. When it fires and blub, blub's a couple times and doesn't wanna completely run it makes a 1-2 second gggrrring, whinning noise after the firing stops. If I just crank and crank there is no noise. Only if it fires then stops firing. Could that be a dragging starter or flywheel issue? This is a 1970 1150 in-line 6.

Re: 1970 1150 noise

I don't know if this will help but I had a 40hp Force that when I changed the impeller and tried to set the shaft & bolt the lower unit back on I damaged the crank shaft seal. Which was touching the fly wheel so my motor was doing exactly what you describe. I beleieve you would have to remove the powerhead to fix this seal. Hope this helps. check your SELOC manual powerhead section removal.

I don't have the Seloc manual but, I did just receive the 1966 thru 1974 Mercury dealer service manual. My motor is 1970 1150 in-line 6 SR#2933436. Does any 1 know if the Seloc manual is any better or if what I have is good enough. The manual seems pretty detailed with nice clear pictures.
