1970 40 hp johnson

I have a 1970 40 hp johnson motor I had a post on previously and I took the advise I was given and I replaced the starter and the engine still wont start I had spark in both cylinders I removed the flywheel and checked the point gap and it was set at 020 as stated on fly wheel but i was still not satisfied and i purchased a new set of points and condenser also a carb rebuild kit and assembled all of this stuff gap is good i have a strong spark in both cylinders when i crank the engine over is the high idle safety supposed to move i think that is what it is called under the plate were the points and coils are also wich coil goes to wich cylinder righ on top or left on top cylinder thank you for your feedback.:confused:

Now that you have thrown all those parts at it, why not troubleshoot a bit and find out what is wrong?

Go to the Engine FAQs and do "Outboard won't start".

Let us know what you find.

you have said nothing about compression, have you checked it, and what are the #s?
