1970 40hp evinrude 40053A...sound insulation replacement

Mine has all been worn away . I picked up this engine last summer and am planning on repainting it. However before i do that i am planning on replacing the impeller. I want to repaint the engine cowl and install the sound deadening insulation....any ideas how to do it and what to buy.

I used something like this:

and it helped. Came with self adhesive backing, but i sprayed some 3m adhesive spray on the inside of the hood too.
