So I got my motor running and went out for a test run. Every thing went well until I was about to call it good then the motor stopped moving forward and reved up I had no forward or reverse. So I guess I got to take it apart does anyone know what might be the problem is there a form with directions on how to do this? Thanks for the help!

Most likely, a sheared propeller drive pin. Part number 307949. Made of stainless steel, not brass.

the drive pin is ok and when I put the motor in gear and turn the propeller it stops like it should take it out of gear it turns freely

Re: 1970 6hp evinrude

Hitting something on the water would do it. I acquired my 1970 6hp Johnson because it had a broken drive shaft. My buddy hit a log and the drive shaft broke. He was tired of messing with the motor, so I got it for free. I seem to remember this one broke just above the water pump, so that may be the weak point of the shaft. PN 381026, but you really need to look at the salvage yards listed in the "Top Secret Thread" at the top of this forum, or ebay, unless you just have $238 burning a hole in your pocket.
