No spark. I got the outboard for $20 intending to use it as a parts source for another 5HP Easka which threw its rod and damaged the reed valve.
Alas! apples -vs- oranges
The parts engine is equipped with electronic ignition, where the other has contact points. Upon learning this, I mentally changed horses and began thinking in terms of using the 'parts' motor as the primary and the original as a parts source.
"Just swap the ignition pieces/parts", I thought. Nope. There's no keyway slot at the top of the crank to accept the cam that drives the contact points.
Both the conventionally-mounted primary primary coil and the externally-mounted secondary coils check good in static testing. The primary feeds into a black plastic module under the flywheel, which in turn feeds the secondary.
Can anyone offer some insight as to what lies within the mysterious black plastic "trigger" module? For all I know it could contain nothing more than a magnetic reed switch. <--Unlikely, I think. More likely a small collection of solid state goodies.
Bonus points if you can direct me to a source for said pesky "trigger" module.
DOUBLE bonus points if you can direct me to an exploded view of the outboard.
Thanks.

Dang you just want everything, OK there are 2 ways to go, a used Module/Stator or replace the C1 capacitor by depotting the module down to the back side of the circut board and abandoning the C1 cap and the D6 diode in place, soldering in a jumper and building a new componet in a out side package.
Good Used units are available @ about $75

Yah did good, Ed is heck of a good guy and a personal friend of mine.
Although He would perfer not to have that personal web site used.
Please use www.enginesandmagnets.com same web site but on a public web server :)

Module is out, trace cut and jumper soldered in place. WHAT ... a mess to Dremel down to the PCB! Black dust EVERYwhere! Now gotta wait 'till next trip to Radio Shack to pick up a pair of caps. (Did I mention I live in a cave in the middle of a cornfield?) Anything special about that diode I should know about? Fast-switching? High current capacity? I've got a handful of plain ol' 5A & 10A rated rectifiers out of low voltage power supplies. 400V-600V PIV rating - same as cap(s)?

Thanks for the heads up about your friend's private site. I've made a note.
Thanks also for the "how to" tip to repair that pricey module. Less than $5 @ Radio Shack beats the daylights outta spending hours searching, then paying a king's ransom - only to be further insulted by an inflated shipping charge. <--Nevermind that the replacement would likely be used and made with the same sub standard components.

yep the dust is bad....will make you sick too....I used a ventalation fan right in front of me. The twin modules are enough to send you to the hospital.
I realy don't know on the componets you mention but as far as I know radio shack only carries up to 250v cap. I have a cute litle design for the package using 650v cap
