according to ya''llll it sounds like i just got a dandy motor,,,,,I love to hear that!!!!!!!!!!!is it kind--of a rare motor ???? or just bad-***,,,anyway I love these oldies there simple motors and fun... thanks again fellas!!!!!

It's not a rare motor yet, but also being factory stock built weighing just 78 lbs. at 25 hp. it's a very desirable motor, not to be seen again.

Samo is correct, that motor is a pin drive prop, so there is no through the hub exhaust. The pic that Whywhyzed posted is what you should see - exhaust and a "healthy" spray of water. I don't know this particular motor well but it may have a thermostat in it. If so, you might not see water coming out in 10 - 20 seconds. You should see it soon thereafter, though. Also, if you are checking the water pump for function, don't run the motor on a hose because it will force feed the cooling system and will not give you an accurate feel for the condition of the pump. It is much better (and not that hard with a motor of this size) to run it in a barrel.

I think the advice to change the impeller on a motor that is new to you, is advice that should be taken. It is possible that the housing, water tube grommet and base plate were changed recently by the last owner, but you should examine them to be sure. If in doubt, buy the whole kit because, as was also pointed out, it's not that expensive and ends up being "cheap insurance." I tend to do complete replacements at times just because I would rather get it all done at once.

Have fun with it!

PS: If you look at Whywhyzed's pic, you will see an oval shaped access plate on the side of the midsection. That is where the coupler for the gear shift rod is - it is definately easier to deal with than the smaller motors, where the coupler can only be accessed by dropping the LU about a 1/2 - 3/4 inch!

Hi,

I've got the same motor as yours... Mine seemed to be sputtering water out fine when I got it, but I changed the impeller anyway. Found 1 vane of the impeller broken off and riding around inside the housing. With the new impeller it pumped much much more water.

So, I'd definitely change it out... nothing tricky with this motor... it has the little oval access window on the leg to disconnect the shift linkage.

On mine I picked up a few spare drive pins and pushed them into a rubber stopper (with holes) and then zip tied that to the motor under the cover. That way I always have spares.

I've had mine a few years, and it runs great at WOT, but I've never been too happy about how it idles. Doesn't idle down very low and sputters and dies. I've gone through a bunch of stuff to try and get it better, but found it was just less frustrating to use my 6 hp for trolling.

Anyway... good luck!
