My buddy got a good deal on this engine to get his boat going again. It runs perfectly.1/8 of a turn and it starts right up.Does this engine charge the battery.I know that it uses a lot of gas,we go on trips together all the time.He has a 16 foot flat Bottomed Bass Tracker. It pushes that boat right along.

Your year or horsepower are wrong. Give us a model number so we know what we are discussing here.

If its an early 70s hydro-elecric shift and its 65hp, it is a 1972 or 1973 motor. The 1973 motor will have a tilt tube steering system and the 1972 will not.

Assuming that the charging system is functioning properly, yes it will charge the boat's battery. The following describes the specifications required for the battery.

"For best performance, we recommend a 12 volt. 70 ampere hour battery, or better, with a minimum of 2 minutes cold starting capacity at 100 amperes discharge, zero degrees Farenheit, and a 10 second voltage reading of 7.5 volts."
