When you cap your stringers, I'd advise you to tear the CSM and make it really "Hairy" and then use a Chip Brush with the Bristles Cut 1/2 Off and then dab the resin on at first then come back with a 4" roller to finish it off. That always seems to work for me.:noidea:

Thanks WOG. I did everything but the roller, and the whole time I was telling myself to get the roller. But I was like, hey I wanna try that plastic thing. Learned another lesson, and put it in the memory bank. I think I squeegeed too much and left the top resin starved. Think I'll leave it for later and let it dry so I can grind it easier. Thought I'd get more done today, but forgot I have a meeting. Good thing my wife saw it on the calender. Oh well, hope I can at least PB some stuff in.. Aloha and have a good day.

Kin,
meant to get back at you. Whew.......My first time doing csm was a total joke. I went at it like "oh it's nothing". It kicked me arse!! And I do still have to go back at it with the grinder to make it right. When I see it, they way it ended up I just chuckle and then sorta growl to myself. So tired of the grinding I am. But like I say it's always a learning curve and Iboats is the best library of afficionados.

Well got those floor supports glassed in today. It was going good until the sun started hitting the resin. Wish I had longer working time but it turned out ok. Well I'll see how good it is on Thursday, gotta work tomorrow. I was counting all the layers in my head of 1708 with the repairs, hull thickening, stringers, bulkheads, fishbox, and damn, its a lot. Well gonna ride good with the weight hopefully. one small step closer. Can't wait to finish this thing, don't know how many man hours so far but it's got to be in the hundreds. It's a tank for sure now.

When glassing the top of stringers and bulkies, should I use 2 layers of CSM or is one enough?

1 is cool. Plus your probably gonna use pb to lay the deck on the bulkheads and stringers? Thats like triple strong! Although others adhesives are used.

Is PL or 5200 suitable for applying the deck, it would probably be a lot easier, since some stainless screws (dipped in 5200) will be added. Its in a tube and easier to apply??? Just asking to see what others have done.

Got a little work done today. Glassed the port side floor supports, cut glass for the rear bulkhead and live well. Got some grindinging done. Also put up one side of the fishbox to see what it looks like. Now you can see why I wouldn't want to laminate this to the stringer, but rather join on top. It's gonna be good for some large tunas.

Yep, there's gonna be through hulls in the live well and the fishbox drains into the live well. This is a typical Hawaiian design.

Got some work done yesterday. I was able to completely glass the live well with 2 layers 1708 and one layer of 1.5 oz mat (Insure waterproofing). The outside of the livewell and the rear bulkhead also got glassed with 2 layers of 1708.
