Re: 1970 Johnson 20 hp throttle Q's

Hey,

I've got it almost all of it together but I have two problems at the moment: (now looking at it, they are probably related)

* Flywheel magnets rub against something inside, probably the coils, which is strange. I have to investigate...

* I need a new flywheel nut! The old one was strangely made from such a soft metal that I've managed to strip threads just by putting it on and taking it off a couple of times. Does anyone know its exact dimensions? I'm guessing it's UNC (coarse), ...?

These issues are now resolved, I had the armature plate the wrong way up. Heh.

It wouldn't start, however. I'm thinking that maybe the points alignment is wrong, I've double checked the points gap and it's sparking good. It made about 4 or 5 loud bangs at random, one at a time, when I tried to start it.

I'll try again next week probably.

front coil, closest to carb, is for the top cylinder in the event you need that info in getting it started
