Hi,

I bought a carb to try on my 9.5, the engine fired right up, and is smooth, but running fast, can't bring it down to an idle. Not sure what I did wrong but the twist grip doesn't seem to work right, it twists, but won't come down to idle speed. I can see the assembly move and the plate seems to move the accelerator link.

No manual here, not sure if it would help or not.

Thanks,

Is there an idle speed adjustment screw just behind the tiller handle? Back it out some.

I looked at the old carb, and saw a screw that faces to the bow, loosening this changed evreything thing, but now that the rpms have come down, it does not run smooth.

Any initial setting on the low adjustment screw?

Thanks,

No, that's the slow speed needle.
The idle adjustment screw I was referring to is on the port side of the motor, just behind the tiller. See #19 in the diagram...

Thanks for the reply. There is a round screw that looks like it holds the tiller on (I'm sure there is something under it that does) and you can turn that to make an idle speed adjustment.

I think I found the problem (see post below) however, it runs smooth at fast speeds, and dies before you can get it to idle/shift into gear. The tiller handle itself is very sloppy, lots of play as far as the throttle is concerned, but I know that is not making it run rough at low speed.
