1970 sportwin not spitting water

i have a 1970 9.5 horse evinrude sportwin, i beleive it is overheating i dont know where the **** tube is to see if it is clogged, do i have to remove lower unit? it supposedly has new waterpump...

The thermostat is in the head above the sparkplugs, held in by three screws. Remove it and start the engine in water with the thermostat and thermostat cover off to see if you have good flow up to it.

What makes you think it is over heating? Take off the hood put your finger on the head, if it burns your finger it is overheating. You should be able to hold your finger on it for about 4 seconds.<br /><br />That motor does not have a pee hole. They did not add the pee holes until long after that motor was no longer made. If 1974 motor was redesigned and new motor was 9.9 HP but still did not get a pee hole until approx 1980.<br /><br />It does have a exhaust relife port but you will get no water out of it running on muffs. <br /><br />Start by finding out if it is really overheating. If it is then check the thermostat and find out if it i opening.
