1970 stamas 21' shifting adjustment needed

I bought new batteries old ones where 2\11 figured it was time. There was no short. Thanks for the info. Now I have shifting adjustment problems. I have mercruiser in/out board I had it going in forward but died in reverse now reverse f fie but won't go into forward. I screwed around with the stern drive brass barrel. I think i

Thanks. I saw in in adults only just thought wasn't the right one. This is going to be a lot quicker than the way I was doing it. Thanks again

I adjusted the shift cable like video showed. It wouldn't go into reverse. I adjusted stem in slot up a little at a time and got it in reverse but.when it goes into gear it throttles up at same time. so I adjuster it a little more and it hit the kill switch. should this adjustment be this sensitive or is something worn out?

This would be the classic issue of needing a lower shift cable. The cable jacket gets worn on the inside by the steel inner cable and has to much slop. Got get your self a new cable and install. The Adults only area has sticky's on how to do it
