1970's 50hp merc

Hi! I was just looking at this outboard on ebay just wondering does this sound about right? Could it be the Distribuitor cap?

Took off my 16' tri haul last year to put a 70 on. 50 ran rough mechanic said needs distrebutor bad idle. bottom end is good as far as i know not froze up moves freely in neutral.water pump works. rough start mechanic said due to distributor looks like original. fireing on all cylinders all spark jumping is what i was told. all electroincs look new good compression 115 to 120 all four cylinders.

Does it sound like sound professional diagnostic findings, NO.

Knowing the old Mercs myself, and its sparking, I would agree the cap is shot. Probably fulla crap too...
If it has spark and compression, OK to go. Just say it needs a new cap, probably wires, maybe a whole new Distrub..wouldn't pay much though..really need to know more.
