1971 1150 inline 6 "get into gear"

I removed the lower unit to change the impeller; put everything back together but now it will not shift into neutral. Please help in laymans terms.<br />Is there a site where I can see a diagram or can someone explain how to set up the gear shift pin. Thanks for any help. Newbie to boating mechanics.

Hello Windsurf!<br />Sounds like you have missed something inyour assembly. When you mounted the lower unit, did you put both the powerhead and lower unit in forward? Did you remove any of the pieces around the shift shaft?<br /><br /><br />-M-
