Heres a few pix!First of my Guru in the same boat as mine, with the XS.
Second 2 of my XS in the 70's, 17 foot Switzercraft, on the pad at 72mph. 14x28 2 blade surface prop (Yep, JR, some boats we never should have sold!!)

Who is your Merc. guru?

Holeshot? I'm not concerned with that. I'm looking for absolute top speed with the way it presently is powered. The boat does have a pad, of sorts. The pad doesn't extend down like in a Hydrostream. It's more like a flat spot. However, the boat gets up on the pad. I've attached a pic of it running. I was told by someone at Scream and Fly that I could get 70 out of this boat with the present power, with the proper set-back, height, and prop. Don't know if I believe that or not. Still, if I want to go faster it's a cheaper way to go than buying a different OB.

Boat's got a ****house fulla potential. Gurus in Mason County, just north of me in OLY. When the weather gets crummy for the season, I could set up something on ya dragging it down and letting him look at it..won't charge ya a dime for it...he's a speed freak too, and been there..done that ..(and we are also both getting a little too old for this!)
PM me for more info, but he's private, hell of a nice guy, but when it comes to small fast boats with old Mercs on them, he will meltdown and let go with ideas..and he knows them all...

Oh yeah, that pic says ya need an set back jack plate, and the right prop...it will get the boat out of the water...then the fun begins...I rode on about the last few feet of pad on my XS, just a little sawing on the wheel, and the boat was super level and solid!
