Hello, I cannot locate this part on any of the part diagrams online nor in the service manual I own. I noticed the plastic arm hits the starter when I pull the starter cord and makes some noise. I recently replaced the pull cord and I notice the noise. I cannot remember if that normal when I release the pull cord after pulling it. The plastic arm appears to be damaged on the end where it contacts the starter teeth. Does the part look normal?
thanks for any help provided.
Dave

That is part of the mechanism that locks the recoil if gearshift is not in neutral.. so you cannot start in gear. If it’s hitting in neutral, you can adjust with an adjustment screw (you’ll see it..)

Thanks the picture I sent is definitely #49. I’m not sure how I missed that while looking at the part diagrams. The spring looks to be functional. I’ll take a closer look tomorrow to see if the noise is for sure coming from the lock out and not the shift lock #42 . Thanks again for the help and the explanation of the function of the parts. It’s a great motor I just picked up and have been enjoying tinkering with it. My first and only outboard for my 76 Gregor 14’ fishing boat. It moves that boat!

The 25 HP model came out in 1969.-----A development of the legendary 22 cubic inch motor built from 57 to 76.------Excellent motor and new / used parts are everywhere.----Some of these lightweight motors will be enjoyed for years to come.
