1971-75 lower units

I have a 1971 short shaft and was wondering if a 1975 long shaft are inter changable parts the 1975 has a blown power head and the 1971 needs to be changed to a 20" leg Thanks Anyone & Happh Holidays bob

To what engine models are you refering?

The 1971 is: Model# 40E 71B and serial# J3452679 ( 15"short Shaft)

The 1975 is: Model# 40EL 75c and serial# J4258782 (20" long shaft)

Do you think I can switch with using the spacer and longer shift rod & drive shaft. will every line up. Thanks Bob

well I bought the 1975 and yes the spline is different, the power head is blown but I got the spacer and other parts but not what I needed it was a 75.00 gamble, can anything be done with the parts I have here to make a long shaft out of the short one Thanks Bob
