1971 9.5hp Evinrude Sportwin Fuel Filter

I have this old fuel filter for a nissan pickup should i install this on my fuel line, in between my fuel tank and my outboard to be extra careful that my fuel is getting filtered well. I know with this small carbs any little dirt in the fuel can mess things up. What do you guys think? Is it worth it? Would effect performance some how? There is a picture attached of the fuel filter. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I have filters on both my metal tanks. Just put them on this winter and put them between the tank and the bulb. It would take a long time to plug them with the amount of gas I go through but I figure I'll change them out every five years regardless. Read your carb. post just now. Glad it worked for you. That nozzel is in the channel behind the drain plug. You have to remove the bowl drain plug and then look down the channel for it. If you sprayed the cleaner through there it;s probably good and clean. Rick.

So i guess more specifically, it would be okay to use this old nissan truck filter? Should i go down to the autoparts store and get something that would be a better application or fit for a small outboard?

The ones I bought were made by Fram and the only concern I had was the hose size needed to be 5/16th. Mine look smaller than the one in your picture. I also thought it would be best to go with metal due to the potential breakage problem of plastic on a portable tank. Rick.

I'd be really careful about any kind of restriction placed in front of that little fuel pump. If anything, I'd try one of the smaller paper/mesh ones for lawnmowers and the like. The one off the car may have multiple fliters and might require a beefier pump. You're risking rupturing a diaphragm with too big a restriction.

That makes total since! Ill go get a lawnmower filter, and that was exactly what i was worried about was the rate of fuel flow with that big fuel filter on there. And im sure Ricks was smaller than the one in the photo. It just seemed over kill to me, the whole reason i posted this.

Anything rated for marine would work too - even the spin-on canister water separators. You just have no idea what kind of pump it takes to use the auto-type.
