Ahoy mates, I just got Sportster and would like to have a battery charging capability.
It does have electric start. Would all I need is a rectifier?
Thanks

Check shop.evinrude.com to get the kit #. Then start shopping around. You'll need other components under the flywheel. Normally if you have a good battery and don't run a bunch of accessories off of it it will last a long time. Sometimes it's just cheaper to charge the battery.

The 22 c.i.d. Sportster 25 through 1976, along with the 18 horse 1957 through 1973 never had any charging capability from the factory or in kit form. Since we are in 2012 it might be an realistic option to consider a solar panel for battery charging, since you are not going to find a kit for your motor. Actually 1975 & 1976 there was an AC kit for the Canadian 20 horse, but it was for running plug-in AC powertools, not charging your battery with DC power.

Strange I know, because the electric start 9.9. & 15 back to 1974 had alternators built in.
