1971 Evinrude 50hp long shaft carb question

I have a 1971 Evinrude 50hp motor with a long shaft and I need to know what the manual or expirience says on the adjustment on the 2 screws for the idle/mixture adjustment. Bottom plug keeps fowling out and I think its way out of adjustment. Only fowls when I accelerate. But if i'm putting around the lake its all good.

first if the idle mix screws will wiggle wrap each of them with twine to keep air leaks dwn.you can start at 3/4 turn out from closed this worked 4 me as mine were pretty worn. then try to adjust out frm there while on the water with a driver of course!! hope this helps
