Well I got lucky and found an org. 1971 factory service manual from my local Rude dealer, maybe that would help with tuning?!?!?

You will need to compromise - If you don't get on plane you can't get speed, period.

Once you are on plane, you get whatever conditions allow. But only at 7" per prop revolution under perfect conditions, which isn't going to happen.

Full throttle range on the 1971 is 4000-5000 in the specifications chart of your service manual. The propeller gear ratio is 13:23.

Yes, you are right, so let me ask you this, I don't want to have to run this motor at WOT all the time to get around, is there one prop that would be best for cruising??? If so what kind of speed am I looking at?

Everyone tells me don't run WOT for more than a few minutes at a time. I am new to two strokes, I have always been an I/O guy. Des this matter or am I being fooled?

Thanks again for the advise

If you find a Tiny Tac for that motor so that you can track it, you will probably find that running full throttle is not exceeding the 4000 to 5000 range under load.

Right or wrong, guys have been pushing the 9.5 motors at full throttle for hours since I was a kid (which has been a good while).

I still think that you should run with the +/- 7 pitch prop for your boat.
