1971 fisherman propeller

I have a 1971 fisherman 6hp with a two blade propeller. And a frined of mine has a Johnson with 3 blades. The boats are similar in size and design. His boat out performs mine. Is it due to the prop. Is there a 3 blade for my motor.

There are a lot of other factors to consider before saying the prop is the difference. "Similar in size and design" really means little. To some people, a boat is a boat, and they all look the same. Though, all other things being equal, 2 blade props are usually faster than 3 blades.

So here we ask, is there a pitch difference? Different manufacturer? Different blade design? All things other than the prop identical.....like the weather, hotter or cooler? Were you out with one and stopped, changed props and re-ran to check the different speed?
