I'm a newbie when it comes to boats and bought an old one so that I can learn something about them before I spend any money. I've recently aquired a 1971 Cheetah with a 60 HP Johnson (Hydro Electic)motor. Here's my situation: when I hook up a battery I can soon feel heat on the stator and the neutral solenoid doesn't seem to be actuated (it stays in gear when I turn the keyswitch). By the ignition schematic, It seems that for the stator to be heating up, the shift diodes must be bad (and also there must be something up with the keyswitch). Does anyone have any specs on the diodes? And also, would faulty shift diodes prevent the neutral solenoid from actuating? Thanks in advance. pstenger@aecengineers.com
