1971 Mercury 4 hp Stator testing

Does anyone know how to check the stator on a 1971 Mercury 4hp with an ohm meter. It only has one wire coming off the Stator. and a ground screw.

What is your motor doing / not doing ?-----Cleaned / set the breaker points ?
