1971 Sea King 6 hp motor questions

Hello all, I'm relatively inexperienced when it comes to outboards, and I'm looking into buying a 1971 Sea King motor, model number VWB27006A, serial number 17X21023, and have a few questions that I would like some help on...

1. Is the fuel mix ratio 50:1? That is what I've heard, just looking for confirmation.

2. Should the choke valve be open and exposed like the picture, ? It looks like there are 3 mounting holes on the housing around the choke mechanism, but nothing covering it. Is that normal, or is there something missing?

3. In the same picture there is a rod coming up from through the underside of the engine compartment that isn't connected to anything. The guy claims it was tuned up and runs perfectly, and that he's never known if there was supposed to be something there. This picture, shows the underside with the lever that is connected to the rod...that apparently does nothing, but is free to move in the direction of the arrows. Is this true, or are there parts missing?

I plan on testing the motor out this weekend, but want to save my time if there are major components missing.

Normaly an outboard does not have a airfilter, but larger engines have airsilenter. Chrysler/Sea king does not have airsilenter on smaller OBs. The holes do not have any function.

The lever is for the cover, it is the coverlatch.
In the pics I do not see any major parts missing. Test it and make your own choise.
Most parts for Chrysler fits Sea King.

Thank you for the help! I'll be testing it out this weekend and hopefully it runs as well as he claims it does!

On a side note, does anybody know a value for an engine like this? How much should I pay for it if it's in good running condition?

Like nordin said,the holes aren't used on the carb.
They us ethese carbs on a bunch of other things that do need air cleaners or covers.
Lawn mowers etc.

50-1

If it runs good $100- 300 depending on the condition.

Check compression,spark and the oil in the lower unit.

Looks fairly clean

Thanks Jerryjerry, can you offer advice about checking the compression and oil in the lower unit? I noticed after tilting the motor and looking it over, that a few drips of oil came out the bottom near the prop. Is that a problem?

I know it has new spark plugs, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Your assessment is correct, it looks very clean and seems to be in very good shape. I think I plan on offering about $200 if it runs as well as he says it does.
