Hi
I have recently aquired a 1971 5 hp sears ted williams clutch shift outboard motor serial # 217.59310 and the previous owner said that the only problem with it was that the choke lever had fallen off and did not know how to reattach it. Everything else is fine but if anyone can help me find out how to reattach it would be greatly appeciated. Thanks

Okay i was able to reattach the choke rod but not i've realized that the lever that adjusts the throttle lever post is missing but i was able to acquire one but the sears diagram is not very clear on how to attach that any additional help? Thanks

Could be a bit of a sticky wickett - That post is staked on. You say you got another one - another what? Carburetor, or just the throttle valve shaft with the post on it? I think I'd take the throttle butterfly out of the bore of the carb, and pull the shaft that carries the post out, and replace the whole shmear.

That throttle lever in pic 3 bolts to the stator. I think you gotta pull the tank off to see the place it's supposed to go. There's a channel in the stator that it lays in. Oh yeah, you are so gonna make this motor your biatch. You can see the throttle cam behind the post, and the horizontal wear marks from the post. The cam is mounted on the stator, and I think you'll find that the lever you have bolts to the stator above the cam. Snatch the tank, and I'll bet the way it's supposed to be will jump right out at ya.

This is why you are the Eskalogical Phd, and I'm a half click better than a stab in the eye with the sharp end of a frozen yak dukey, Mr. C.
