Re: 1972 100hp Mn 100293
i was out on the lake and i noticed that the motor would run great then it would get a burst of power and then go back to normal. Also my manual say to mix the gas 50 to 1 but that seem real rich what should it be? Also i read in the FAQ how to install a tell tale should this be done if it is can it cause any damage down the road? Also how can i test my over heating horn or alarm what ever u want to call it? And if theirs any other info i should know. Oh one more thing the evinrude dealer sold me this hi-vis gear lube but i just read to use premium should i drain it and use premium or will i be ok. Does it matter if i use premium gas or regular, will this affect anything such bursts of power or oil mixture. I know this is alot of questions but please and try to answer them all PLEASE, i need alot of help im new to all of this. Thanks mike
Your motor is not running on all four cylinders. Once in awhile the missing cylinder(s) will fire and give you that burst of speed. Let's just say it needs repair.
Fuel mix is 50:1. No cheating allowed.
Install a tell tale if you think you have to have one. I don't. Much better is to simply know that you have a good water pump in there. You aren't going to spend the whole dy with your head screwed around backwards to watch the tell tale. If the pump fails at high speed, it will cook the powerhead to destruction in seconds. Much too quickly for you to even notice it. In fact, usually too quickly for the warning horn to go off either.
There is a tan wire going into one of the cylinder heads. That is the sender for the overheat horn. Slide the insulator back and ground the wire to the head with the key on. The horn should blow.
You dealer sold you the wrong oil for your Hydro-Electric shift. Should be "Premium Blend". Previously called "Type C"
Regular unleaded gas. Premium won't hurt it. In fact, they were sort of borderline on gas requirements.
