WHAT ARE THE WOT(WIDE OPEN THROTTLE)PROP SPECS,FOR A 1972,20HP JOHNSON????THE BOAT IS A 1959, 13.5 FOOT FIBERGLASS A LITTLE HEAVY IN THE FRONT FROM REFIBERGLASSING WORK??? ALSO ,IS IT POSSIABLE TO ADD A STARTER MOTOR TO THE ENGINE LISTED ABOVE????IF YES,WHAT'S THE MODEL NO.# OF THE STARTER,AND ANY ADDITIONAL PARTS THAT ARE NEEDED??????THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANY INFO,THE STURGEON GENERAL.

Jim, the electric start system from a '72 25hp motor should bolt right up to your motor, you'll need the starer & solenoid & brackets, 4 gau. +/- batt. cables & probably a few other parts. You may have to the change flywheel<br /><br />You can go to Ishopmarine.com & click on parts list, they have detailed diagrams/parts lists and cross reference between the 1972 25E72R and your motor. If you contact them they may be able to put a conversion kit together?<br /><br />Try using the search feature at the top of the page also, this topic comes up all the time. You can most likely find some info in the old posts.<br /><br />Also turn the caps lock off on your keyboard!!<br /><br />Good Luck

4000-5000RPM, I think it does a lot better towards the top of the range.<br />Your takes the same starter, bracket, solenoid, etc from the 25hp engine (early-mid 70s) & 18hp engine ('50s-mid 70s) so a starter from any of those will work. You can actually buy a little kit from the dealer that includes the starter, starter bracket, solenoid, wiring, plugs, etc. P/N 171845 is about $350, of course you could do a lot better scavanging parts off a junk engine. Google "Used outboard parts" and try tcoutboard.com & marinepartsoutlet.com.<br />And please, if you don't mind go easy on the caps. It's extremely hard to read, and comes across as rude shouting on these forums. Thank you.<br /><br />EDIT: Beat me to it MCM! He shouldn't need to replace his flywheel though - it should be a toothed one.
