Re: 1972 25hp Johnson -- Up and runnin
GOOD NEWS...GOOD NEWS!!!
Instead of trying to figure out what was bad, I just ordered two coils and a complete tuneup kit from iboats, and went down today to work on her.

I pulled the flywheel off per Paul's instructions, replaced both coils -- the little pin/screw-type connections on the coils that fit onto the plug wires were burned almost down to a nubben. Replaced both condensers and point sets, gapped the points to .020", put her all back together, torqued the flywheel to 42 lbs. put the cover on, and took her for a spin.
Runs perfectly!! Since I first thought the problem was a dirty carb, the carb is spit shined and adjusted to the tee.

A thousand thanks to all who took the time out of their days/nights to help me out.

You all have to realize something...
My business is a high liability occupation, and I have been lied to and involved in countless lawsuits -- all and every one deemed frivalous by even the plaintiff's attorneys.
Needless to say, over the last 10 years I have lost a considerable faith in humanity.

You guys have restored much of my faith in the good will of mankind. Its comforting to know that there are still people out there in this ol world that still have pride and get an inner satisfaction from merely helping their fellow man.

Thanks again,
James
