Earlier this year I acquired a 1972 Mossback boat and 1972 45hp chrysler motor model number 457 HD. It had been sitting for 8-10 years. The motor would not start and I found out that one of the ignition coils was bad. I need to know what part number the ignition coil is. Any other help would be appreciated.

There were two types. One where the spark plug wire is part of the coil and the other one is where you can separate the coil from the wire. Which one is yours?

Part number is F345475-1. Mercury might still be able to get them for you. Doug Russell site shows them for $115 each.

Thanks for the help. I found the part at a local shop and I am gonna have them install it so that they can also check the engine and get it running. I think the impeller is also gonna have to be changed. I would rather let someone who knows what their doing work on my boat.

It is getting tough to find people that will work on these motors. If you have any mechanical abilities get a clymer manual. The first time you do an impeller change is kind of scary but after you get it done you are amazed at how simple it is. Not only that but after doing one you see how things work in a motor. The clymer manual will show you things like how to winterize how to do basic things that will make the motor run longer and better for you. Have the pro get the motor running good for you. If later you feel ready this is a good place to come for help.
