I have yet another question trying to get this motor running. I disconneted the black and yellow wire from my powerpack (as you guys suggested) and I now have spark!!! Does this mean I need to replace the ign switch on the remote? Thanks in advance

Re-connect that black/yellow wire to the powerpack.

Now, to test the ignition switch, remove that same black/yellow wire for the "M" terminal of the ignition switch.

If you have spark with it disconnected...... BUT DO NOT when it is connected with the key in the ON or START position, replace the ignition switch.

If you end up needing a new switch, they are readily available at your local OMC/BRP dealer. On the old switch, there is one tab with multiple wires connected to it. The new switches have a second tab hooked to the same switch circuit, so it is a bit easier to get everything installed properly.

Follow Joe's advice but, having had the same problem with my 1972 Johnson 65hp, I'd say that you found your problem.

First I checked the resistance on the b/y wire, it was like .001 so the wire is good. Then I took the b/y wire off of terminal 6 on the pwr pack and turned the engine over and had strong blue spark. Just to be sure, I re-connected to term 6 on the pwr pk and disconnected from the ign swtch and turned over still strong spark. So it has to be the switch.
