Hello all,
I just came into a 1972 Starcraft Holiday and it has a 72 65HP Johnson on it but a few of the wires have dried and cracked insulation. I did look into buying a new harness for the motor but couldn't find one. Any thoughts on how to fix the bad insulation, heat shrink where I can, electrical tape, liquid electrical tape?
My goal is to try and get the motor and boat running and take it out a few time to see if I'm going to keep it.

Thanks

anything goes if you can't splice in new wires,,,,
liquid tape, vinyl tape, (heat shrink involves cutting inserting soldering...then heat shrinking)

you can "paint" the wires with common silicone sealant, I have used contact glues to seal and solidify cracked insulation. Some glues dry and vanish away forming a waterproof skin layer protecting the wires. You can then cover them up with vinyl tape but some cheaper tapes can unravel in an
enclosed ...warm cowl .

All good information, thanks. I think I’ll clean what I can and then try some waterproof liquid tape. And if things go good I’ll look into a more permanent solution.
