Updated: After having a heck of a time taking it apart we got to the forward thrust bearing and it was shattered. We haven't gotten the oil pump out. Getting the snap rings out was a pain. Could the thrust bearing be the problem?

The problem is the debris that went through the system !----Now the precision bore of the shift piston is compromised and the piston can not move properly.----Time to find some used parts I think.-------What do all the rest of the parts look like ?----Drive shaft / pinion bearings etc, etc.------I believe the oil pump has 1/4-NC threads to help pull it out.

If thrust washer wash damaged most likey the oil pump face us damaged along with bearing surface of forward gear. Might be cheaper and faster to find a used unit and slap on it...

Got the pump out. Only problem we seen was a small tear and grit on the screen in it.

Not sure exactly what to look for. All of the pieces that do move are moving fine. There's nothing noticeably wrong other than the screen.

Post #1 you are trying to replace the clutch dog spring.----So is the clutch dog spring broken ?---Does it appear that there is something wrong with the spring ?

The spring is not broken. However the thrust bearing is shattered. I've attached a picture of the screen from the oil pump.

The forward gear is bad as the surface the thrust bearings run on are gaulded
