it runs for about 2 seconds till the fuel in the cylinder is gone, maybe 1 sec actually.. choke works perfect, entire carb was redone by yours truly

Mike.... Have some fuel/oil mixture in a spray container of some kind. Shoot it into the carburetor throat, close the choke, crank the engine.

If the engine starts (momentarily), it would appear that you've overlooked something in the carburetor, possibly the small fixed brass high speed jet that located in the bottom center of the float chamber.

Fuel must flow through that high speed jet before it has access to any other fuel passageway.

when i rebuilt and cleaned carb, i took out that jet and let it soak clean, and then blew some air through it and it was nice and shiney :) ...
and no, it wont start with fuel shot in the carb...but what about the reeds.. how do i tell if they are bad...they were gummy and sticking... does this mean they are bad?

I had this same problem when I rebuilt my motor. You may want to recheck your float arm just to make sure it’s not pushing up that needle valve to soon . I also had a problem with my replacement needle valve sticking it had a black rubber tip that would make it stick. I ended up using the, all metal one that was in there. As far as my reed valves mine were pretty ugly but I used them. The manual says they should not be stuck to the plate and have a very little gap 0.010. Good luck.

If they were bad, they would look bad; bent, rusty or broken. Sticky definitly sounds wrong, they ought be be clean as a whistle. Primary compression (and so suction) is only a few psi on these engines, so any stickyness would be a problem. Remove 'em and clean 'em!

Dittos on Paul's reply. I'm puzzled why you didn't clean them when you saw they were sticking etc. At any rate, the fact that they're sticking would mean that they also aren't seating. That allows crankcase pressure to escape out the intake manifold which cancels out having the fuel forced up and onto the piston domes.

Mike, One last thought. Be sure you use Loctite or equiv. on the reed stops when you re-assemble, you don't want screws floating around inside, worse yet, to ingest a reed.Installing a new reed plate gasket goes without saying.

i didnt see that they were sticky until after i tried re-running the engine with the newly rebuilt carb and other new parts. i figured this was the only thing i didnt do yet, so i took em out and whammo, here they are.....i can see light through two of the 4 reeds, thas bad isnt it:)
