I suspect that you have an air cooled engine, caldog.

24:1 is about as lean as you can get away with on those Tecumseh chainsaw powerheads, but it has to be oil for an air cooled engine. . . chainsaw or weedwhacker oil, NOT TC-W3 (the W means water cooled) outboard oil.

If your engine is water cooled (Eska 2 cyl. powerhead) forget what I said.

Good luck. :)

Re: 1972 7 hp sears fuel/oil mix

Thanks JB !! Also that handle out front that moves from left to right,Is that the throttle control over to the left is idle/shift and when i push it to the right it should be fast speed, reason i ask is it won't stay running for long time at idle "no more than 5 to 10 seconds" and i have to keep playing with the choke.I am going to clean out the carb today and try it again,Also will any major chainsaw oil will work ? or can you recommend a brand thanks

The sliding handle controls both carb throttle plate and stator position (ignition timing), caldog.

Your engine may need something as simple as adjustment of the carb throttle linkage at idle or cleaning of the the carb to open up the idle jet. It could also have a weakening fuel pump.

I use both Poulan chainsaw oil and WeedEater oil in my air cooled 2 strokes. Both seem to work well.

Good luck. :)
