Re: 1972-73 chrysler 130
Do yourself a favor before you go crazy:
Just on general principals, replace the fuel pump diaphragm and gasket. If you have the glass bowl fuel pump, the diaphragm is the same as all Chrysler/Force except the bolt holes are 3/16 instaed of 1/4. If you are dead set on buying the correct one, however, go over to The Chrysler Crew. Franz will sell you one but he will be expensive, If you have the fuel pump mounted on the bypass cover with the black plastic inlet and screen, then the diaphragm and gasket are the same for all engines up to at least 1990--so get one at the local Merc dealer.
Change the sparkplugs. These engines are notorious for fouling plugs and then, while they may start, idle is very poor and they may not accelerate from idle without stalling. Also, if the engine sounds like it is dying lean, check carbs to see that they are not clogged and check low speed needles to see that they are not too far in--usually about 1 turn out from lightly seated is reasonable.
Check to be certain that the idle speed is 700-750 RPM IN FORWARD GEAR, IN THE WATER.
Now, if this does not help the problem, then start checking the fuel system, the distributor cap for carbon tracking, and the ignition system.
