Motor "clunks" intermittently as boat is moving in forward gear; the faster the speed, the harder the "clunk". Lower unit has been rebuilt and motor has been tuned, but problem still exists.
The clunk is usually caused by a worn clutch dog.Sometimes the gears can be worn too.If someone tried to dress the surfaces of the dog it is almost impossible to get it right. If the shift rod was assembled wrong it might cause problems too.Rod is notched and clamp bolts need to pass through the notches. There are also to detent balls that assist proper shifting.
