1972 evinrude 65 Dies at high speed Runs great low and mid

THis thing is driving me crazy, It runs super at low and mid speeds down the lake and at high full throttle it dies dead. then will restart and go again. Fresh plugs and good gas any idea's?

Tony, I had that problem on an old 15 rude. The fuel pump was not keeping up( weak diaphram spring.) a pump rebuild took care of it. good luck.

Tony homer I had the exact same problem on a 1986 70HP johnson.. Turns out the pick up tube inside the fuel tank was pulling in air at the top where the pick up tube is pushed on the fitting... Pull that out & check it..... E-Z FIX!!!!CHEAP TOO!!<br />Try that first..

Had the same problem with mine, turned out the thermostat was broken into three chunks and blocking the water jacket.

Thanks Guys were gonna replace gas tank and gas line this weekend and try that then on to fuel pump kit next. where would I get one for this old motor?

Any OMC dealer will have a kit for your pump..."Your Welcome"
