Just went completely through the motor and got it running. It has a hard time idling and will only start with the choke pulled. Any thoughts?

compression numbers? spark test with a tester? carb cleaned with the welch plug pulled for the idle circuit? points clean and gapped right?

Yeah, I rebuilt the carb and cleaned and gapped the points. Haven't done a compression test though.

Sounds like the low speed circuit is still dirty, it's easy to not get everything cleaned out the first time through. Does turning the low speed adjustment on the front of the motor make it run any different?

when you cleaned the carb, did you remove the welch plug on top? and run a strand of wire through all the passages and holes....after soaking it for a day or more? the idle circuit has some TINY passages and holes under the welch plug , that will effect slow speed . but a compression test is also a must. ( a spark test tool is only about $20 or less, and is well worth it!)

The low speed adjustment does make the motor run different. I did remove the welch plug but I didn't soak it or run a wire. I guess it's time to buy some more tools. Haha
