Hey everyone,
Since I have gotten the boat I have started piecing her together bit by bit. So far my progress is going well and I do believe in the saying, when talking about a boat, "add another thousand".
I have gotten flame arrestors for it but since the carbs, on the volvo penta aq130c, arent original the motor cover doesnt close all the way. It hits on the top of the arrestor. I think the carbs are bigger than the stock ones. I dont know what to do about this... Quite frankly Im stumped. I might have to just fiberglass the bottom of the cover so it sits even or something. Any suggestions?
I also got a new bilge pump for it, new impeller and a new shift linkage cover.
I went out to turn the motor on today to see if the new impeller was working since I installed it last night when It was getting dark but I had to get gas first. When I got back with the gas I put in about 2 gallons and went to turn it on. I smelled gas so I didnt and checked around. Turns out the gas hose that was attached to the gas tank was leaking and had dumped about a gallon of gas straight in to the front of the boat under the deck. I guess the metal fastener had come loose when they put the gas tank back in there. It literally has to be forced in there because its such a tight fit. I am going to get a new hose tomorrow hopefully. Would an auto parts store have this or would I need to go to a marine store? Ill just call them before I go.
Heres some pics of what I was dealing with. The gas was pooled on the surface above where the stringers are about an inch deep. Had to get towels and mop it out. Bummer day but its good I noticed it now before I was out on the water and had this thing blow up on me....
Had to pull out the whole gas tank and get back there with the towels.
here you can see where the gas hose was just laying barely on the gas tube. Just hanging there!!!!:
the gas tank is on the left , pooling gas in the back from the leaking tube... no hole in gas tank so thats ONE GOOD THING.
if this thing would have somehow sparked I would have been toast lol... I disconnected the battery before I did anything !!!!!
thanks for taking a look and feel free to comment.
