Thanks ronward. I'll grab another gauge and see what I get then.

Got another gauge and tested again.
Top: 140
Bottom: 110

The guy I go the motor from said that one of the cylinders was weak so that is why he got the other motor.

I just wished to say the Engine looked GREAT. As far as one cylinder being low and if you should wish to look into fixing it you might see if the bore is clean and if so do a simple hone job and replace the rings. Just an idea without spending a bunch of money right off the bat after all of the work you have done. But this is just my idea as I am Brand New to Outboard Engines but not new to Engines if that makes sense. :)

And did you get the Tack working correctly?

thanks check checking in jester.

Unfortunately, that cylinder has gotten so bad that I cannot do any other testing. I will need to pull the top end off and rebuild if it isn't too far gone once I check the cylinders.
I am pretty well versed in 2 stroke engines from my motocross days so I am hoping it is similar.

I am always open to any suggestions or comments.

Thank you

I have this same outboard, 50ESL72C. I am trying to replace the impeller but can’t figure out how to drop the lower unit. Is there a screw in the top of the motor to release a shaft? I’ve seen other outboard there are. But this hydro-electric shift seems to be diffferernt. Basically I need to know all the screws to take out in order to drop the lower unit or anything else I should know. Thanks.

There are wires to disconnect to drop the lower unit.-----Should have 7 bolts on the work bench for the lower unit to come off.
