I have a 1972 9.5 johnson the problem I have is after you start the motor if you do not get it in gear and give it some gas it usually will die. After that it is very hard to start up again can take sometimes 5 min before you can start it. It seems if it is running for a while and turns off that it then starts no problem. Boat has no probelm torlling on running at any speed. Just hard to start sometimes. I already cleaned the carb. Anyone have any ideas

Did you set the low speed needle properly. There is also an adjustment on the handle pivot to increase the low speed rpm if required. Have you checked compression and spark? Are the plugs the right ones and in good condition? There is an interesting article a few threads later than yours about cleaning the low speed circuit you should look at. Best of luck. Rick.
