My '72 Johnson 50HP won't fire up. It was working fine when I bought it used. After the winter months, it ran great a few more times and the last time I used it wasn't running as fast as it used to. I'm a first time boat owner, who knows how to fix a car, but boat motors I have no clue about. Tried to fix it, but now it's dumping alot of fuel and doesn't fire up. Also, the the lean & rich adjusters are missing, don't know how to adjust the fuse without the knob. Help??

Well, it sounds like you need to go through the carbs. Make sure everything is clean and assembled properly. Confirm float adjustment.

Re: 1972 Johnson choking

Thanks for the help. I will try to resolve that issue. One more question, I hope I'm explaining this right. How does the fuel transfer into the 2 carb chamber? My Johnson has 2 carb, only one of the carb receives fuel. Why doesn't the other carb receive any fuel? It has a small fuel line connected to each other, but the other doesn't receive any fuel. What would be the problem there?

Loosen the line on teh carb not receiving fuel. turn the motor over. If fuel leaks from the line then the carb float/pin is stuck closed or blocked with trash.

Thank you for the response. I checked for that and everything is fine. What I've noticed is that it's flooding my sparksplug. How do I keep it from flooding out my sparksplug? It causes the motor not to fire up. Can the amount of fuel flow be adjusted?
