I posted a couple weeks ago about rewiring a 1972 Mercury 402E outboard. I cut into the rubber casing to find good wire. I spliced onto that, and covered them in JB Weld 5-minute epoxy to seal it and keep the wires separate. Now I can’t get the harness back through the hole in the cowl. There’s a rubber lip on the harness plug that has to sit in this little gap between the edge of the cowl, and another metal lip to keep it secure. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the rubber lip to seat into that gap. Somebody must’ve had this problem before.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

CDI Electronics Wire Harness to 1972 Merc 402E

I just bought a CDI Electronics Wire harness for my 1972 Merc 402E outboard. It's CDI part number 414-2770. I have a couple issues.
1. There's an extra pin on this harness, compared to the original one. This isn't a problem, as the boat side harness has a hole for it, but I'm not sure if I need to connect that wire to anything. If it wasn't connected before, I don't need to connect it now, right?
2. I have 1 wire left to go to two different places. It's the orange wire, which CDI says connects to the "Kill Circuit for ADI". This is connected to the same pin as the wires that used to go to the orange terminal on the switch box, and the tilt stop switch. Do any of you know for sure where this wire goes?
3. Do I absolutely need a wire connecting to the tilt stop switch, or can I just leave that off?
