Re: 1972 mercury 9.8 will not start
OK new to the forum. I too have a 1972 9.8 Mercury 110. In VERY good shape. I have replaced all the wiring. It was falling apart. Replaced the stators. Points are set correct. Or as best I can. This is not a fuel problem. Checked the cap and it seems OK. At least it is showing the correct capacitance and is not leaking. I can walk out in the garage right now and it will start and run perfect. Idle all day. Start first pull, ect. Sits ten minutes and looses spark. Yesterday ran 5 minutes and then quit. No spark, barely a sputter. Sits a day and will fire up again. I ordered new isolator blocks as they don't look real good. I've been told the cap never goes bad on these. What else could it possibly be????
